Economic realities claim yet another victim in Hong Kong: Central’s Cuban-inspired rum bar The Daily Tot has announced that it will be permanently closing its doors by early December.

This ode to Caribbean sips on the corner of Peel Street and Hollywood Road opened smack dab in the middle of the pandemic during 2020 and has been a beloved drinking spot among Hong Kong’s nighttime revelers for five years. Rum lovers, premium cigar enthusiasts, and cocktail drinkers alike have been known to congregate in The Daily Tot’s warm-toned, leafy decorated space, as well as its outdoor patio seating area.

Unfortunately, rising costs of operations within a post-pandemic landscape that has proved slow to recover has meant that the bar will be shuttering for good at the end of the day on Tuesday, December 2. To celebrate the good times and memories over its five-year run, The Daily Tot will be hosting a two-day farewell party on November 28 and 29, bringing back their first-ever music act DJ Minou on November 29 to spin for one final Rum & Riddim night.

However, there is a slight chance that the bar might make a comeback in the future. According to the hospitality group behind The Daily Tot, Singular Concepts, this is ‘not a ‘goodbye’ forever. “We hold onto the concept and the spirit of The Daily Tot and hope to be back in the near future,” says CEO David Sit.

We’ll see you there for one last tot of rum!
