Listen, Hongkongers need a break. We live in one of the world’s most densely populated, busiest, and most expensive cities, in an economy largely driven by fast-paced industries such as finance, banking, trade, and logistics. We are also notorious for our long working hours, and pulling overtime is largely considered the norm. So yes, it tracks that Hongkongers need the time and space to properly unwind every now and then. Thank god our city is also home to plenty of good spas and wellness facilities – here are some of the newest wellness treatments in town for this season.

We’ve all gotten pretty good at wearing sunscreen religiously by now, but one part of our bodies people tend to forget to protect is our heads – which, ironically, sustains unrelenting sun damage when we’re out. This summer, London-based hair and scalp care brand Svenson unveils two cooling therapies to beat the summer heat and its hair damage. A hand-held cryotherapy device TargetCool™ is used to rapidly cool the scalp, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and increase oxygen flow. This is then paired with a choice of two scalp treatments. The Optimum Cooling Oxygen Rejuvenate (from a trial price of $899) cleanses and calms the scalp, stimulates hair follicles, and nourishes damaged hair cuticles.

Otherwise, the Cooling Oxygen Smooths & Calms (from a trial price of $728) is perfect for heat- and acne-irritated scalps that have been out in the sun too long. The TargetCool™ cooling mode numbs the area to combat discomfort while the treatment eliminates sebum, dandruff, and dirt while delivering anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. These two treatments join Svenson’s extensive menu of hair treatments and are available at five locations.

Opening its doors in the final quarter of 2024, Acme Wellness is the first hot and cold contrast therapy destination in Hong Kong. Each of their treatment rooms in the tranquil Duddell Street location houses a full-spectrum infrared sauna and a plunge tub, so instead of rolling around in the snow after a Scandinavian outdoors sauna, you can stimulate your body’s natural healing mechanisms right in the heart of Central. Acme Wellness also offers chromotherapy saunas which can manage pain, improve sleep, and elevate moods, as well as ice bath experiences that stimulate blood circulation and reduce inflammation.
