Encounter the narrative of a curious cat as told through the monochrome depictions of Japanese contemporary artist TIDE, whose first solo exhibition in Hong Kong is now on view at WKM Gallery in Wong Chuk Hang. Diving into themes of home life, interpersonal connections, childhood innocence, nostalgia, and the passing of time, ‘EDIT’ portrays naive curiosity and the journey of growing through the artist’s signature feline character and his deliberate simplicity in choosing the absence of colour for his works.
‘EDIT’ also demonstrates TIDE’s new approach to his craft, in which the process of painting is slowed down, revisited, and revised over an extended period of time. Each layer becomes a record of the artwork’s history from beginning to end, inviting contemplation of its metaphorical meaning and appreciation of fleeting moments.
