What to do in Helsinki this month? The greyest days of the year are here, but the city's event calendar is bringing some much-needed colour and light to November!

There’s plenty to choose from for culture lovers this November. The Night Visions Film Festival serves up horror, sci-fi and fantasy, while the Etnosoi! Festival explores music and dance traditions from around the world. For something a little darker, there’s the Hellsinki Industrial Festival.

By the end of the month, it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit as Aleksanterinkatu’s traditional Christmas lights are switched on and the much-loved Helsinki Christmas Market opens at Senate Square. You can also get a head start on Christmas shopping at the Helsinki City Museum’s Christmas Market or the FunDesign Christmas Market at Cable Factory.

If you’re not quite ready for all things Christmas, take your taste buds on a trip to Japan at the Teishoku Lunch pop-up or tuck into Italian treats at Il Becco, a kiosk that stays open throughout the winter months.

1 November: Hakaniemi Farmers’ Market

The perfect Sunday starts at Hakaniemi Market Square! The stalls sell everything from locally produced food and handicrafts to street food, and you can pick up products grown and made by the traders themselves to take home.

Free entry. The market runs from 10:00 to 16:00.

2 November: Tour of the Railway Station Clock Tower

The clock tower at Helsinki Central Railway Station is now open to visitors, but the only way to explore it is on a guided tour. Even the dimly lit stairway leading up to the tower is an experience in itself!
