Helsinki restaurants are raising funds for Unicef with a long-table pie lunch on 20 December. Eleven local restaurants are taking part, each bringing their own pie to the table. The participating restaurants are Boreal, Plein, Kuurna, Tampopo, Café Clé, Laivakoira, Yes Yes Yes, Cafe Meli and Elm’s sister restaurants Nolla and Nolita.

The concept is simple: each restaurant bakes its own pie, and Elm – together with the Puistokatu 4 community – provides the venue. The lunch is served family-style around long tables, with the aim of creating space for new encounters and a sense of togetherness.

Everyone is welcome – instead of a set price, guests secure their seat by donating directly via Unicef’s fundraising page. The recommended donation is €25, but the event is open to all and smaller contributions are warmly appreciated. All funds go directly to charity, as the restaurants are sponsoring the ingredients and labour.

‘The idea came from a desire to bring Helsinki’s restaurant community together to do good and to create a shared pre-Christmas moment for the city,’ says Carlos Henriques, one of Elm’s founders.

The long-table pie lunch takes place at Restaurant Elm (Puistokatu 4) on Saturday 20 December from 13.00 to 15.00.
