The KZN holiday deals worth booking before they disappear

A three-night escape could come with a R500 saving if you book at a participating Africamps location before the current offer ends.

The three-night special is valid until 22 September 2026, excluding long weekends, public holidays, school holidays and peak-season dates. In KZN, that includes locations such as AfriCamps at Gowan Valley in the Midlands and AfriCamps at Bonamanzi Game Reserve.

The Gowan Valley camp puts you in the heart of the Midlands Meander, while Bonamanzi offers a more wildlife-focused escape in northern KZN.

There is also a current AfriCamps single-parent special, under which children aged three to 16 can stay free in qualifying bookings. Terms and exclusions apply.

Looking for a family break in the mountains? Drakensberg Gardens Fairways is currently offering 20% off qualifying stays until 23 September 2026.

The advertised rate is R1,936 per day from Monday to Thursday, reduced from R2,420, while Friday to Sunday stays are listed at R2,984 per day, down from R3,730.

A minimum two-night stay applies, making this one to consider for a longer weekend or short family escape.

The Drakensberg is one of KZN’s easiest places to escape to when you need a change of scenery, and Africamps Champagne Valley is currently listed from R1,990 for September stays.

The current listing shows a saving of up to 39%, with the September offer available until 30 September 2026. Rates are based on two guests in a tent, with additional charges for extra guests.

The glamping tents can accommodate up to five people, making this an option for couples as well as small groups and families.

For something a little different, AfriCamps at Bonamanzi Game Reserve is currently listed from R2,640 for September stays.

The current offer runs until 22 September 2026, with a saving of 12% listed on the latest KZN accommodation deals. The tents sleep up to five, although the advertised base rate is calculated for two guests.

Bonamanzi also qualifies for AfriCamps' wider three-night R500 saving, subject to the offer's exclusions. A once-off R300 cleaning fee is excluded from the listed accommodation rates.

Fancy swapping the city for Zululand? Ghost Mountain Inn in Mkuze currently has a two-night special running from 1 September to 18 December 2026.

The current deal is listed from R2,690, with bookings for the special needing to be made by 30 September. Blackout dates apply.

The hotel also has a range of packages, including its Zululand Getaway, which combines accommodation with meals and a choice of a safari or spa experience, as well as a two-night Boat & Spa package.

If your idea of a holiday is less about sightseeing and more about disappearing into nature, Giants Cup Wilderness Reserve in the Southern Drakensberg is worth a look.

Current 2026 rates start at R2,500 per night for Duckbay Cottage, which sleeps four, while other cottages and cabins start at lower rates.

The property is also currently promoting a midweek, out-of-season special where selected cottages can qualify for a stay-three-nights-pay-for-two deal. The special is subject to selected dates, accommodation, and direct-booking conditions, so check availability before booking.

For a quieter mountain break, Little Switzerland Resort is currently listed from R2,537, with its deal available for midweek stays from Sunday to Thursday.

The current offer period runs through 31 March 2027, making this one of the longer-running options on our list.

It is a useful one to keep in mind if you can travel outside the weekend, when accommodation prices can be more competitive.

Another mountain option is The Cavern Drakensberg Resort & Spa, currently listed from R3,908, with a saving of up to 24% shown on current KZN accommodation listings.

The deal is available for qualifying stays through 9 December 2026, excluding applicable peak periods.

Set in the Northern Drakensberg, it is a good option for travellers looking for a more traditional resort-style mountain stay rather than self-catering accommodation.

You don't have to leave the coast to find a deal.

Premier Hotel Umhlanga is currently listed with rates from R2,504 and a saving of 20% for stays from 1 September to 27 December 2026.

The hotel is on Umhlanga Ridge, close to Gateway and the KZN Sharks Board, making it an easy option if you want a city break with the beach and northern Durban attractions nearby.

The hotel's own booking site also currently lists room-only and bed-and-breakfast rates, including non-refundable options, so compare the terms before booking.

For a South Coast escape, San Lameer is another property where it is worth checking the current accommodation specials.

Current listings for individual San Lameer villas show savings of up to 20% on qualifying last-minute and longer stays, with offers running into November 2026. Conditions vary between individual villas, so the exact savings depend on the property and dates selected.

For example, one six-sleeper villa is currently advertised with 20% off for bookings made less than seven days before arrival, while another offers 20% off stays of six nights or longer.
