If you’re travelling along KwaZulu-Natal’s major routes this December, you can look forward to smoother experiences when it come to payments at toll plazas.
This is all thanks to a major update from the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral).
As of 1 December, traditional magnetic swipe cards have been phased out at Sanral-operated toll booths and replaced with a faster, safer Tap&Go system.
Sanral has officially rolled out this contactless EMV technology, allowing you to pay tolls with a bank card or mobile device using a simple tap.
The new system is designed to cut down queue times and streamline the payment process during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Sanral has assured motorists that all contactless bank cards will work seamlessly at participating toll plazas.
How to use Tap &Go
- Look for the Tap&Go signs
- Have your card or device ready
- Keep your window down
- Align your card/device with the reader
- Tap your card/device
- Wait for the ‘approved’ message
- Drive off when the boom lifts
- No paper slip required

N2 Toll Fees
- Oribi: R40.00
- oThongathi: R15.00
- Mvoti: R18.00
- Mtunzini: R62.00
- Mandini: R10.00
- Dokodweni: R26.00
