Swap the city for mountain views, scenic trails, dam swims and a full weekend of outdoor fun near Spionkop Dam.

Feel like you just need to run?
Possibly in the mountains, surrounded by some of the world’s most incredible scenery?
Perfect. Take this as your sign to enter the Kudu Canter Trail Run, taking place from 23 to 25 October 2026 in the Central Drakensberg.
This boutique trail-running event brings runners and walkers to a scenic spot between Durban and Johannesburg for a full weekend in the great outdoors.

The Kudu Canter caters for different ways of enjoying the outdoors, with runners and walkers welcome to tackle the scenic routes around Spionkop Dam.
If running isn't quite enough adventure, there's also a 300m dam swim on both days. This is a safe and refreshing way to cool off after spending time on the trails.
The idea is to make the event accessible to families and outdoor enthusiasts rather than turning the entire weekend into a serious race mission.
With that in mind, the supervised kids’ zone gives younger visitors somewhere to enjoy themselves while the grown-ups tackle the trails.
Once Saturday's racing is done, there's no need to pack up and head home. The race village becomes a base for a weekend of outdoor activities, with opportunities to fish, cycle, swim, birdwatch, or just relax!
There's also a Kudu Canter Apparel Shop selling the event's funky pants and activewear, while runners are encouraged to bring old running shoes for a donation drive supporting local running clubs.

Free camping with views of the dam adds to the festival-like feel, while optional tent rentals are available for those who would rather leave the camping equipment at home.
There will be a well-stocked bar serving cold drinks, water and a selection of alcoholic beverages, while Copperfields Catering will be providing meals throughout the weekend.
A 24-hour tea and coffee station will also keep campers and early risers going, with hot chocolate, juice, water, rusks and biscuits available.
There’s no tuckshop on site, though, so organisers recommend you bring snacks and treats for those between-meal cravings.
