Rather than a Halloween party, this community celebration at Free Bird Café invites you to skip the commercialisation of the festival and instead share stories, music and memories around a collective altar dedicated to those no longer with us. That’s right, this is the real Día de Muertos gathering, inspired by Mexican and Mesoamerican traditions of remembrance. The afternoon begins with an InterPlay movement and storytelling workshop, followed by traditional Ojo de Dios-inspired weaving, before everyone gathers to decorate the altar and celebrate with live music. Bring photographs, flowers or meaningful keepsakes to contribute, and come ready to remember, reflect and connect. The gathering is donation-based, with proceeds supporting Free Bird Café's community work.
Nov 1. Donations welcome; workshops B150-200. Free Bird Café. Noon-7.30pm
