From supermarket musicals to interstellar wittiness, these are the shows worth booking before they sell out.

1. Alan Committie – AV-A-LAUGH-TA

Alan Committie’s annual year-end debrief is back at Theatre on the Bay, this time under the fantastically daft title of AV-A-LAUGH-TA. Expect his signature wordplay, physical comedy and convoluted flip-chart logic as he tackles everything from Home Affairs queues and conspiracy theories to life admin and the general madness that was 2025. It’s a fast-paced and fiercely clever antidote to festive-season fatigue.

Where: Theatre on the Bay, Camps Bay

When: From 17 December 2025 – 7 February 2026

Tickets: R200 - R300 via Webtickets

2. Marc Lottering – Colleen The Musical

Colleen the Cashier (one of Marc Lottering’s many alter-egos) from Cape Flats Superette finally gets her own musical. Set in a local supermarket where love and life get scanned and bagged, Lottering’s latest blends original songs, a live band and some sharp social commentary. Expect a heart-warming rom-com packed with Cape Town in-jokes and Cap Flats charm.

Where: Pam Golding Theatre, Baxter Theatre Centre, Rondebosch

When: From 4 December 2025 – 7 February

Tickets: R200–R380 via Webtickets

3. Riaad Moosa – What’s the Point?

Riaad Moosa, the Cape’s much-loved ‘Comedy Doctor’, closes out 2025 at The Baxter with What’s the Point?, a philosophical-but-funny take on the world. In his trademark style of laser-sharp observational comedy, Moosa picks apart the big questions – from truth and death to ego and our need to feel superior – while landing punchline after punchline. It’s the final Cape Town run after a sold-out national tour, so this is the last chance to catch Moosa in the Mother City.

Where: Concert Hall, Baxter Theatre Centre

When: 23 December 2025 – 3 January 2026

Tickets: R150–R300 via Webtickets
