The best Cotswolds Airbnbs for the ultimate countryside getaway

Location: Windrush, near Burton.

Sitting halfway between Oxford and Cheltenham, this 300-year-old stone cottage is full of rustic charm. The two bedrooms sleep up to three guests, and a small pet is welcome too. Characterised by low-slung ceilings, exposed beams and textured stonework, you can get cosy on sofas piled high with cushions and throws, which make the cottage feel warm and inviting. In the living room, there’s a stone inglenook with a log burner for chilly evenings.

Time Out tip: You’re surrounded by miles of countryside for long country walks – a six-mile trek from Burford to Swinbrook River treats you to ancient and stone-built houses, historic churches, and enough pubs to stop at for a few well-earned pints. The Fox Inn is a ten-minute stroll down the river from the cottage. If you fancy a bigger day out, the towns of Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon are both only an hour’s drive away. 

Location: Elmore near Gloucester and Stroud.

So this Airbnb is technically on the edge of the Cotswolds, but we’re still counting it – especially when there are certified Cotswolds views out of every window. Elmore Wild treehouses are a collection of luxury treehouses for adults (available for couples and groups), available to book on Airbnb. They are clustered together on the Elmore grounds, but perhaps the most magical thing is that each one feels completely secluded – it’s just nature on nature as far as the eye can see. Inside, things are perfectly aesthetic, with pink cookware, an outdoor kitchen, an open fire and blankets and even a metal outdoor bath right on the terrace (don’t worry, I guarantee no one can see you). If you want Cotswolds but a little less cottage-core, this is the best out there.

Situated right in the middle of a charming little village called Duns Tew, this 18th century barn has been lovingly reimagined as The Barn, with its original features (think wooden beams, exposed stone walls) sitting proudly amongst a bold, modern design. Like something out of The Holiday – but a little more Soho Farmhouse, which by the way, is just on the doorstep.

Time Out says: This arty Airbnb is in an ideal spot for exploring the rest of the Cotswolds. Local pub The White Horse is highly rated and just a minute’s walk away. Soho Farmhouse, which has a gym, restaurant and outdoor swimming pool, and potentially good people watching, is eight minutes away. Aptly named the 'Dassett Cabin' due to its beautiful rural location, this Hobbit-inspired Airbnb has all you need for a wonderful weekend away in the forest. From hot tubs and hammocks to outdoor showers and a private sauna, this earthy retreat offers a variety of wonderfully wholesome things to enjoy while you unwind in the British countryside. There's even a spot to charge your electric car, and a dog and alpaca named Vlad in the adjoining paddock. A bucolic dream? Indeed.

Time Out says: There are plenty of beautiful walks from Horton stone village, including Burton Dassett Hills Country Park and the village of Farnborough. The path along the ridgeway takes you through a field with sheep and semi wild ponies. Hop in the car and head to Cropredy or Fenny Compton where you can traverse canal towpaths.

Sure this is your classic Cotswold-stone cottage, but beyond that (and that's good in itself) the location is prime walking territory. You see, this is right in the heart of Owlpen Valley. Full of woodlands, lush green fields and a very fancy manor house that's well worth a visit. And after you’ve got your walking boots nice and muddy? Settle in your own little manor house of sorts, in front of the wood-burning stove. Or out on the patio. Lovely stuff.

Time Out says: Long considered one of England’s most romantic settings, Owlpen valley is conveniently close to historic Bath, Cheltenham, and Cirencester, as well as top day-trip spots like Oxford, Blenheim and Stratford-upon-Avon. Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion sit just three miles away, alongside stunning heritage estates like Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House, Sudeley Castle, and Highgrove.

Barn conversions. Done well, there's not much better. Spacious, stylish and super-cosy – just what you need after a day spent roaming the countryside (or sipping pints at a cute village pub, we're not judging). This luxurious medieval barn conversion ticks all the boxes – and look at that gorgeous spiral staircase! This one-bedroom conversion in Fairford is a perfect couple's getaway, and also just happens to be next door to a fifteenth-century inn. Plenty of good food around too. Nice.

Time Out says: Fairford is located on the southern edge of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. Burford and Witney are both a 20-minute drive away. In Fairford you can stroll down the River Coln , visit the local market in Market Place every Wednesday morning and scoff avo on toast at Lynwood and Co. 

Location: Broadway.

Nothing screams quintessentially English more than a thatched cottage. We literally refer to them as 'chocolate box cottages' and this three-bed in the impossibly quaint village of Broadway (often dubbed The Cotswolds’ loveliest) certainly lives up to its sweet moniker. It's 400 years old, but you wouldn't know it, as inside it's stylishly decorated with a modern eye and comes with all the usual creature comforts and free parking. The garden is lush and blooming, but the view from the upstairs windows also looks out over rolling green hills.

Best for: Big groups.

Time Out says: Broadway is part of the Golden Triangle in the Cotswolds – an upmarket area famed for its celebrity residents and honey-coloured market towns. Chipping Campden is a 10-minute drive away and Stow-on-the-Wold is 20 minutes away. In Broadway itself there’s a great spread of shops, galleries restaurants and live music at the nearby Crown and Trumpet pub.

Location: Notgrove village, Cheltenham. 

Here's your full-on nature immersion, and fire-side chilling, sans faffing around with tents. Pal, these glamping pods are exactly what you need, and they're also extremely affordable. This set of eight individually named cabins (Bluebell! Poppy! Buttercup! etc.) are known as 'mega pods' and sleep up to four. They each have en-suite showers and toilets, TVs, kitchenettes, Wi-Fi and even heating and electrical points. Time Out says: A serene and historic hamlet in the Cotswolds, Notgrove lies about ten miles east of Cheltenham. It’s a mere eight minutes by car from nearby Bourton-on-the-Water and offers easy access to popular walking trails including the Diamond Way, Macmillan Way, and Gloucestershire Way. Did you know Bourton-on-the-Water was voted as the most romantic village in the UK in 2025?

Location: South Gloucestershire, in between Bath and Bristol. 

Once a disused barn, this guest house received a much-needed facelift and has been transformed into quite the luxury modern bolthole. And it's certainly in the best spot for it: hidden along a country lane between Bath and Bristol, meaning plenty of picturesque walking routes and a cycle path. Ahh, country roads. This picturesque lodge is modelled on the kind of home you see all over New England, so you’ll basically be in the big old US of A. You know, painted wooden exteriors, a decking looking over the water out back. Blissful. But if you ask us? We’re most wowed by the fact that it’s in the middle of the Cotswold Water Park. Wildlife abounds. And there's plenty for little ones to get involved in: watersport activities, a children's play area and you can bring your dog. It's an irresistible place to stay.
