Etsu Izakaya

On the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Waters a red lantern hangs outside a pair of sliding doors marking the spot of Etsu Izakaya. It's a subdued entrance hiding the exciting stuff inside. An izakaya is a traditional Japanese drinking establishment that serves food – Etsu nails both with Japanese whisky, sake, draught and bottled beer to imbibe with sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki and smoke-infused skewered meats and vegetables cooked over coals on the robata grill late into the night, seven days a week.
