First opened in 1995, the Kendall isn't technically an independent flickhouse; indies run alongside mainstream hits, and its parent company, Landmark Theatres, wrangles dozens of cinemas nationwide. But it's stayed an MIT-area staple through the changing movie-theater landscape in recent years. The Kendall's parent company changed hands in 2018 to a Mark Cuban-funded film distribution company steered by a known cinephile, and the Cambridge venue has added beer and wine to its concessions and upgraded plush seating.
