Review
Commercial Street was around long before malls took over, and it still holds its ground. On any given afternoon, you’ll see school kids bargaining for earrings, women lining up at tailoring shops, tourists buying scarves, and stylists picking through export-surplus racks.
The main road delivers the greatest hits – clothing stores, sportswear outlets, shoe stalls and cafés for quick breaks – while the side lanes are packed with fabric shops stocking everything from raw silk to printed cotton. You’ll also find small boutiques selling Indo-Western pieces, imitation jewellery stores overflowing with trinkets, and roadside stalls for sunglasses.
Come with a little patience and an appetite for bargains. Be ready to dodge crowds and autos.
The vibe
Energetic, colourful and crowded.
The highlight
Fabric stores tucked in side lanes that feel like secret treasure rooms.
Time Out tip: Afternoon hours are easier to navigate.
