Did somebody say Menulog? Australians won’t be for much longer. This week, the Aussie-born food delivery platform has announced it is ceasing operations after almost two decades, taking its final orders on November 26. This news comes as a big shock for local restaurants and customers, marking the end of Australia’s only major homegrown delivery service.

Menulog launched in Sydney in 2006, helping Aussies order their favourite local eats long before food delivery apps became the norm. The UK-based Just Eat group purchased it in 2015, but a lot has changed since then. Back in 2014, Menulog held around 80 per cent of Australia’s food delivery market – but according to recent IBISWorld data, that share has since dropped to just 23.8 per cent, with Uber Eats now dominating at 53.8 per cent.

In a message to customers, Menulog said, “As the only Australian-born platform, Menulog has a proud history, but ultimately, as a business, we have been navigating challenging circumstances and the decision was made to close local operations.”

The Snoop Dogg-certified delivery company will keep taking orders until 11.59pm AEDT on Wednesday, November 26, and will honour all unused vouchers and account credits until then.

Menulog’s exit will affect roughly 120 Australian workers, with eligible couriers entitled to a “one-off voluntary support payment” equivalent to four weeks’ pay.
