Long gone are the days when wellness meant skinny teas, synthetic supplements and a standard hotel massage. These days, taking care of yourself looks a lot more exciting – think floating saunas, forest bathing, dark-sky getaways and immersive nature retreats that combine all of the above. If you’re in need of a deep mental and physical reset, we’ve got good news. Australia has just been named one of the world’s fastest-growing retreat destinations, putting your next big reset right on your doorstep.

Data from the world’s leading retreat booking platform, BookRetreats.com, reveals that Australia’s wellness market is absolutely booming. Its State of Retreats 2026 Report recorded an impressive 255 per cent year-on-year surge in search interest for Australian retreats – second only to the Philippines at 323 per cent. Meanwhile, Indonesia – long considered the holy grail of wellness travel – only landed in 11th place.

You can level up a classic yoga getaway with surfing, hiking and sound baths; sleep beneath the country's darkest, starriest skies in Warrumbungle National Park; dive into hot-cold thermal immersion on the Mornington Peninsula; or disconnect on a hands-on rural farm stay in Byron Bay. The best part? You don’t have to worry about booking flights to Bali or the Philippines, making “health is wealth” a little more affordable.
